How to choose hubpages topics, write goodly, and do it with a bit of fun.

Finding topics.

This will be a short article compared to my average hub. But I am going to reveal a little trick that will help you get more readers. It won't take much time to write, and won't take you long to read. Hopefully, it will be very useful.

The internet contains a staggering amount of information. This is both a blessing and a curse. Often it's easy to find information. Often, that information is suspect, wrong or fraudulent. In many cases, the more you search, the less you really know for sure. As an example, take a look at my hub about finding how many muscles are in the human face. (I still don't know!).

So one golden rule is this:

Only write about what you really know well.

If you don't know the topic like an expert, then don't write about it unless you do extensive research and become the expert. You need to be able to explain the topic to your target audience who are willing to learn, and do so without confusing people, putting them off completely, misinforming them, or leaving them unsatisfied. If you satisfy this rule, then independent external bloggers are more likely to link to your site. (That's a good thing).

The next golden rule is:

Be professional. Proof read for flow, grammar, style, spelling mistakes and visual impact. Poor presentation and bad spelling reduces perceived authority.

Choose relevant keywords.

In some of my hubs, I am warned that I might have too many keywords. Then, I reduce the number, but try to do so by eliminating those that are off topic or on the edge. It's best to choose keywords that actually appear in the core topic of the article, or phrases that are perfect for the content. For example, if you write about ice-cream, then Sunday would be appropriate, but it's unlikely that sex is involved -- well, it could be, but I'll leave that to your imagination.

Inject a little humour into your writing.

With the exception of a highly informative academic-style article or one with a serious core message, it's often nice to raise the odd joke to punctuate the flow of the article why did the chicken cross the road?

And now the neat little trick as a gift, from me to you as a potential super-hubber:

Use Google like this example below to find Wikipedia pages that have little content. Pick what you know about, and write a hub about it before "they" do. You never know - someone might knock off your article and cite you as a reference. That can only be good for your ratings and SEO. ;-)

Search literally for:

"article is a stub" site:http://en.wikipedia.org

You can modify this to choose Wikipedia articles for other languages by replacing the text after "site:" as appropriate.

Have fun!

Sage advice, especially about Wikipedia. Of course, where are you going to research it if Wiki doesn't have it! Ha! Bob

Holy Moly, that's way too much non-information! How would I ever become an expert on 1960's rock stars? Where to begin?

Hey Austinstar, an expert is someone who knows just a little bit more than the audience. :-)

You make it easy to understand when it comes to traffic and how it all works. I am a newbie to online writing and being a babe, it is nice to have someone throw you a bottle or two. Thanks for the milk! I will return to more of your articles when I am ready for the meat! I appreciate the info, vote up!
